Oscar invites 105 new members

…but will they make the telecast funnier?


Judd Apatow and Sacha Baron Cohen can now vote come Oscar time. The pair, along with last year's Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard ("La Vie en Rose") and screenwriter Diablo Cody ("Juno"), are among the 105 showbiz players invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Others being welcomed include actors Josh Brolin, Allison Janney, Jet Li and screenwriters David Benioff ("The Kite Runner") and Tarama Jenkins ("The Savages").

"These individuals are all incredibly talented and a credit to the world of filmmaking," academy president Sid Ganis said in a statement. They join the ranks of just under 6,000 voting members of the academy and will be welcomed in a reception at the Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September.
